Feldenkrais training - Sydney 2003
Individual lessons: Christchurch
I live in Christchurch and am currently doing a Ph.D. on the Feldenkrais® Method and spinal cord injuries. I have worked with a number of people with spinal cord injury including members of the New Zealand Spinal Trust. As a result, I have been invited to give presentations to patients in the Burwood Spinal Unit and have been made a preferred practitioner at the unit. In 2008, I presented a poster on Feldenkrais and spinal cord injuries at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australian & New Zealand Spinal Cord Society. I have run Awareness through Movement classes, both privately and for the Christchurch City Council Pioneer Leisure Centre.
I have worked in a range of fields including movement education, Equal Employment Opportunities, human resources, information technology research, training and facilitation, and mental health.
What brought me to the Feldenkrais Method was severe chronic pain and loss of movement and body awareness. I tried many different techniques - alternative and conventional - but found that most of what I tried relieved symptoms only, made no difference or made me worse. Feldenkrais is the only intervention that has made a long term difference for me.
