About the Feldenkrais Method®

The Feldenkrais Method® was developed by scientist and engineer, Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-84).  Over several decades in the 20th century, he developed a revolutionary system of learning based on principles of physics, neuro-plasticity, body mechanics and martial arts.  This re-education engages the brain – where our movement is organised – through stimulus from the body and the central nervous system.

“Mind and body are not just parts somehow related to each other, but an inseparable whole while functioning.”  Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais

By exploring the variations and novelty embedded in Feldenkrais lessons, your brain learns to release its dependence on habit and make choices that best support your intentions at any given moment.

As a result of this re-education, anyone at any age can improve their posture, co-ordination, flexibility, breathing, and athletic and creative performance. Rehabilitation from muscular-skeletal injury is faster and more complete.  Movement becomes easier and more enjoyable, stress is reduced, and more choice in actions and behavior are developed.

"Through awareness we can learn to move with astonishing lightness and freedom at any age and thereby improve our living circumstances, not only physically but emotionally, intellectually and spiritually."  Dr Moshe Feldenkrais

In other words, by improving awareness of our body through movement and by utilising the brain’s natural capacity for learning, the Feldenkrais Method brings us closer to realising our full human potential.  Bringing this into our lives, we learn to move and live more freely, with greater ease, flexibility and grace.
